Forbes Filipino American History Month 2020
In October 2020, I was tapped by Judith Martinez, the Founder & CEO of InHerShoes, to create the spot illustration for her first Forbes article “When Words Create Worlds - Celebrating Intersectionality in Filipino American History Month”. You can read it here.

Judith's article tackles intersectionality, identity, and explores the nuances of what it means to be Filipino American. She also brings in 2 other voices who share their thoughts on what it means to be Pinay and FilipinX respectively. I wanted to acknowledge Judith’s cultural ties, while also honoring how she has trail-blazed a career as a first generation Filipino American founder so I brought in familiar Filipino flag elements via the sun and the 3 stars, added a directional sign with different terminology that Filipino/a/x/@s — particularly those in the diaspora — use to self-identify, and I drew Judith blazing her own colorful trail while being uplifted by the guiding hand of her ancestors.
